As one of only two main yoga studios in the Metropolitan Washington DC area from the mid 1990s until 2000, Willow Street has set the bar for yoga studios and building community through yoga in our nation. Excellent teachers, variety of classes and workshops each session make Willow a leader in the field. When the popularity of yoga hit cities in 2000 and beyond, Willow Street was ready and able. They now have two studio locations (adding Silver Spring, Md) to meet the demand for quality yoga instruction, and their newsletter is essential reading every session.

When yoga interest shot through the roof, it was comforting to know that Willow Street was there to provide the best teachers and instruction as an established studio long before "everyone" was opening a business throughout the area to cash in on the craze. It's all about the right teachers in any field, especially yoga.

While the yoga community in this region has certainly grown and developed into a more stable environment with a vast variety of well-organized studios, Willow Street remains an innovative model. Namaste!

Willow Street is a historically relevant, formerly Anusara aligned (still influenced by that pedigree) institution, so you're less likely to get hurt. Some real masters of Western yoga (knowhatimsayin) amongst faculty alums, and all solid teachers otherwise. Also a fairly major operation with 2 local campuses with several studios at each location...

I've practiced at Willow for a few years; their amazing instructors are the reason I keep coming back. Their alignment-focused philosophy keeps you healthy and allows you to reach new levels in your practice. Over the years, I've seen them do many things to support the community. In turn, the group of people that come to this studio provide a friendly and inviting atmosphere for new students.

First off, Willow Street Yoga has a different program delivery model than most yoga studios I've seen. While most studios kind of allow you to float in and out, Willow Street really wants you to sign up for a whole session (like 16 or 18 classes) and come mostly to the same class with the same teacher every week (you can do make-ups with other teachers and at other times though, of course.) I LOVE this model, because it allows me to really build a relationship with a teacher...

Like others, I found Willow Street from advertisements for their semester free week. I am not one for yoga, but have benefitted greatly from the pilates classes. I was able to take the six week special with Jessica and have continued my practice with her. Another reviewer called her "the nice one" and it is completely accurate. I feel supported and encouraged during her classes. I was careful to ask about the studio's make-up policies, as I will be traveling for several weeks, and have been able to practice also with Roberta. Some people might be anxious about being touched and repositioned... not me. If I could do the entire class with Roberta standing over me, I would. With the confidence and skill from Jessica's class, I now love the rigor of Roberta's.

So very glad you ladies are in the neighborhood! I've also taken classes at Silver Spring, but Takoma Park is convenient to home.
