The Computer Loft

IT Specialist

Our love for all things Mac started all the way back in 1983 when one of us had a roommate who worked for a software company in Cambridge, MA (sorry, we’re not mentioning any names).

At first, he couldn’t tell us what he was working on. But, late in December, he introduced us to a Macintosh 128k computer and ImageWriter printer. We were amazed and knew it was the beginning of a long term relationship!

So, in January 1984 when the Macintosh computer was formally introduced to the world, we rushed out to buy it. We’ve been passionate about Macs ever since.

We shared this enthusiasm and our knowledge with countless family members, friends, colleagues, customers and clients throughout the years. Finally, in 1990, we established ourselves as The Computer Loft. Read more

The touch pad of our 2015 15" Mac ProBook "froze." I went online to see what the cause might be and found a number of people saying "dirt in the crack." I tried tapping it, vacuuming it ... nothing. I took it to the Computer Loft. They explained that the touch pad is all electronic, it doesn't really "click" like my 2012 Mac ProBook. So, it was broken: $450 to replace as the keyboard, etc. are all one piece. But WAIT! He opened system preferences, opened "trackpad" then checked "tap to click." So, with a tap rather than a push, it works fine. (Guess Mac saw this coming.) Took all of 5 minutes, no charge. When I walked in, he asked me how my day was going. I said, "Not good. Computer touchpad isn't working." If he had asked me that when I was leaving, he'd have had a very different answer.

I went in yesterday with my mid 2010 MacBook Pro, which had an unrepairable hard drive, and asked them to recover the data. The bottom end of the quote was $150 and the estimated pickup date was at most 3 days, so you can imagine how happy I was when I heard from them 4 hours later saying they were done, and when I came in today to find out they only charged $75 given the ease of the job. I highly recommend them.

Have brought many computers from my office in for repairs to the Loft. Always a good experience, even if the recommendation was to move on to a newer model. Spoken to with respect and carefully sharing knowledge, much better than the Apple store at the mall any day.

Highly, highly recommended. I am beyond happy and satisfied with my experience here. I wish I knew about this place sooner, rather than spend all that wasted time at the Apple Store. Every employee was helpful, knowledgeable and kind. I brought my phone in yesterday after work and they started working on the phone right away (free of charge). They gave me two options for my phone and told me it would take a few days for them to restore the system. I received a phone call at 11:00am the next day, telling me it was all set and everything on my phone was restored. My phone was in perfect condition and it was like nothing happened to it. The service was quick and simple. The explanation was straight forward and direct.

I was a little nervous because of some of the reviews on here but honestly, they are simply reviews and those folks sounded a bit grumpy. Communication is key for me, and these guys were very helpful, and also honest with their information relayed re: the service being done on my macbook. The work was completed on my machine in a little less than 3 business days. Service was simple and my laptop is working very well now. Appreciate the help and am thrilled I didn't have to buy a new machine.
