Math for Keeps

Tutor

Math For Keeps is a method for teaching math so that it sticks. Our focus is on skill acquisition and retention rather than concept presentation. We cull the requisite skills from bigger math concepts and teach you how to practice them so that they stick. This makes the bigger concepts easier and more fun to understand and appreciate.

Skill acquisition has many stages. Being shown a skill is just the beginning. There is a long journey from this stage to the one where you have complete ownership, or mastery, of the skill. We have a structured program in place for organizing where skills are along this journey and for providing the ideal type of practice, at the ideal time (this is important), at every stage.

We believe that there is a big difference between presenting and teaching. Presenting is showing a skill. You can do this brilliantly and still not have taught it. Teaching a skill is being responsible for the students' understanding and recall of the skill, over the short- AND long-term. Read more

    Emily,
Thank you for your determination that you find the right tutor for Rea. Cera and she have been at it for about 20 minutes and I can't count the times Rea's voice has risen in excitement that she was heard and she was getting it or figuring it out. I have tears in my eyes with gratitude the universe saw fit to send me your information and you sent me such a wonderful person to help my girl. Thank you again
