DIG Childhood Center

Day Care

We are a community of like-minded parents and teachers who believe children need a place where they can explore and learn on their own terms, where emotional, social, and physical needs are as important as cognitive needs, where young children can get outside and thrust their hands in soil, touch, feel, and smell the plants, and most of all, get dirty.

At DIG, we believe in spending time outside, rain or shine, and connecting with natural materials – plants and trees, dirt and water, stones and wood. Our child-directed program focuses on each individual’s social and emotional well-being. We provide this support via our wonderful Outdoor Classroom, our free-flowing space, and our low teacher-to-student ratio. Read more

DIG is awesome. Child-led, play-based, 1:4 ratio, outdoor classroom, and a parent-run Board make this unlike any other preschool out there. I’ve sent both my kids there and highly recommend it to anyone else looking to help their kids become thoughtful, independent, and well-adjusted human beings.

We are so happy we found this place! The teachers are experts at dealing with all kinds of feelings and really understand how to create an environment that is authentic and joyful. Without exception the parents have been a genuine, kind and interesting (in a good way) bunch of people.

We toured nearly a dozen of the most lauded preschools in West LA before choosing the YWCA for our daughter. We simply fell in love with the outdoor classrooms & the amazing staff. ... From handling the initial separation with patience and grace to managing peer conflict to helping the children develop into thoughtful, independent citizens this school is a class act! I couldn't be more thrilled if I had designed the school myself.

My first child graduated from YFCP last year, and now my second is attending. I wish it were somehow possible to keep them there forever! YFCP has everything I could ever want in a preschool. First and foremost, the teachers are all deeply trained in facilitating children's development and social/emotional skills as well as being an amazing group of caring, loving individuals. ... My first child looks forward to playing in the space when there's family events, and she enjoyed coming back as an alumna to read books at closing circle. No, the program is not academic, but my daughter was certainly kindergarten-ready when she left and excelled her first year at elementary school. Moreover, both of my kids blossomed socially at YFCP and now make friends beautifully on their own. I'm going to be heartbroken when my second graduates!
