My labor was incredibly internal and focused inward. I didn't want to talk or think about other things, and Emily totally got in sync with that the moment she showed up at my house. She was not chatty or talkative, and she did not try to distract me. She was incredible at being in the background, letting my husband and I do our thing unless I wanted her to come closer in. We hired Emily as our doula with all 3 of our pregnancies and am forever grateful that we did. She is knowledgeable, warm, compassionate and a fierce advocate for mothers' rights during pregnancy, labor and delivery. While pregnant with our first, Emily provided us with sound information and research about the birth process. By the time labor came along I knew that everything I was experiencing was normal. We had a negative experience with my, then, OBGYN who used scare tactics and false information to pressure me into following her orders. ... She held my hand and knew exactly what I needed and what to advocate for when I was at the hospital. I can't imagine not having her with me during some of the most vulnerable times of my life. Emily recently helped my husband and I bring our New Year's Eve baby into the world, and I'm so glad we had her by our side. My first birth was very traumatic and involved a lot of interventions, so I was nervous as we approached our second birth. ... I was able to listen to my body and determine when I was ready to go to the hospital - just in time to push the baby out without any interventions. I ended up having an amazing and empowering birth, and Emily played a big role in making that possible. I will always look back on this experience and smile.

Emily wasn't available for my birth date, but she was extremely sweet and friendly over the phone, which is a lot more than I can say for some of the birth centers and doulas I've called! I felt right at ease talking to her and she was able to answer questions I had about birth and positioning. She even offered to send me contact info for doulas she trusts, which is super helpful. Thank you, Emily! Feel better soon!
