Massage Therapist

Joe Azevedo graduated from New York University in 2001 with a B.A. in Psychology. He was initially drawn to reflexology as a client and after receiving several sessions, realized that he wanted to learn more about this healing modality. Joe studied with Wendy Coad through the Open Center where he completed his initial reflexology training in 2001. He then completed practice hours to become a certified reflexologist through the American Reflexology Certification Board (ARCB) in 2002. While working as a reflexologist, Joe became interested in subtler forms of energy work. He returned to the Open Center in 2006 to complete an Advanced Reiki Practitioner course. Joe pursued an Associate’s Degree in Massage Therapy from the Swedish Institute and graduated in 2009. He is currently a New York & Connecticut State Licensed Massage Therapist, as well as nationally licensed through the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork (NCBTMB). I'm a busy yoga teacher and suffered a somewhat serious back injury due to long term muscular imbalance in my legs and hips. I was referred to Joe from a friend who spoke highly of his skills and after my first appointment, I was hooked. Of all the teachers I've studied with, Joe taught me more about the causes of my injury and helped me to understand the anatomy behind it. After a few more sessions, my pain was gone, my muscles felt relief for the first time in several months, and my new found insight allowed me to move and function in a smarter way in my life and my classes. I see Joe regularly and feel that my physical health has improved noticeably, I adjust my finances and schedule so as not to sacrifice this necessary self-care time. Joe has extensive training and continues to educate himself, which is so important. His knowledge and skills paired with intuitive hands help me relax and release in a deep way, and I recommend him to my students often.

Joe is an exceptionally skilled massage therapist. He incorporates a range a massage modalities tailored to a client's personal preferences and needs. Regular massages with Joe have become key part of my wellness routine. Joe also has terrific instincts re: underlying sources of tension/pain. Before my massage with Joe this evening I had significant lower back pain (for over a week); the pain was immediately alleviated after the massage. I strongly recommend him.

Great massage and all reviews are true. Very attentive and intuitive. Like most I have shoulder, neck and plantar fasciitis. He worked on key areas and I walked out with a newly invigorated body! Great after a long transatlantic flight. Highly recommend Joe!
