Animal Care Hospital

Veterinary Care

Animal Care Hospital was founded in 1964 by Dr. John Matchette. The original hospital was located on Thomas Road, just a few blocks east of our present facility. We moved the practice to our current location just west of 32nd street in 1981. Dr. Stephen Bishop joined the practice in 1973, Dr. Mark Halver in 1981, and Dr. Tara Temple in 2006. Dr. Bishop ran our outpatient practice (Animal Care Clinic) from 1977 until 1988. That practice was located in the Town and Country shopping center at 20th Street and Camelback.

For 25 years, we have been accredited by the American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA). This means we are regularly, voluntarily evaluated on over 900 standards of care set forth by the AAHA. AAHA members must meet stringent standards for comprehensive professional, medical and surgical care and are constantly striving for quality. Only 14% of small animal hospitals in the country are members of the AAHA, so we’re proud of this distinction that sets us apart. Our continued membership in AAHA shows that we’re dedicated to providing excellent veterinary medicine to your pets.

We are dedicated professionals who combine compassion and concern with state-of-the-art practice techniques and diagnostics. We chose to be in this profession because we genuinely care for people and their companion animals, and our integrity is known throughout the Phoenix metropolitan area. Read more

The friendliness, service, care and professionalism of the staff at Animal Care Hospital is amazing. We will continue to bring our pets there for any care they need. Their pricing is fair and comparable or less than other veterinary hospitals. You can take your pets to them for their care and rest easy knowing they will be will taken care of. Great Job!!!!!!!!!

Always warm, kind and helpful. My pets have seen a few of the doctors and techs there, and they always take great care of them.

When my stepson's dog injured his paw, I was so relieved that they were willing and able to fit him in for care early the next morning. They were kind, professional, and took great care of the little guy, who was happily running and playing half an hour later. My friend had recommended this practice, and I am so glad she did.

Dr. Halver is one of the most dedicated and caring veterinarians I've met. He took the time to thoroughly do a physical examination of my cat and explained in detail what he was doing. After lab work he called and spent a good 10 minutes or so explaining what was going on and how we would treat Ali. Unlike some other vets I've visited, he is conservative in treatment options. I recommend him and his practice highly!

I cannot recommend this vet enough. Dr Temple is amazing! My poor boy had to get surgery and her amount of care is unparalleled. She was quick acting but never made me feel pressured. I never felt like they were trying to take advantage of me and do unnecessary tests for money. Even though i was an emotional mess she helped to assure me not to panic until need be, and she would let me know when that "need be" would be. She stayed late with him and called in early (before she was even at work) to check on my boy. All the techs and front desk folks are just as excellent. You can tell they all care, and you feel like family when there. I could not ask for better care for my boy.
