When we rolled out Service Listings on Recommended, many users asked us for two key features, Wait Time and Duration, to help you best set customer expectations and manage your work schedule.
If you’re not yet using these features, it’s time to check them out. They enable you to build realistic buffers into your schedule, and enable your customers to accurately and efficiently book your services online.
Here’s how these features work:
Wait time is the amount of time before your next available booking.
Set wait times in hours, days, or weeks. If you typically accept appointments 1 week out, that’s your wait time, and customers will not be able to book your service before that time.
If your wait time ever changes, just update the wait time and your change will take effect immediately.
Wait times are set for each service, not universally for your business. For example, if you run a massage therapy business, you can set a wait time of 3 days for a Swedish massage, and then separately set a wait time of 5 days for a sports massage.
Duration is the amount of time it takes to complete a service.
Set a service duration in minutes, hours, days, or weeks. If you’re a mechanic listing an oil change and it takes 45 minutes to complete, that’s your duration.
By setting a duration for your services, customers won’t be able to book you before your last service has finished, so you’ll never be double booked. As with wait times, if your service duration changes, update it and the changes will take effect instantly.
Duration is set for each service, not universally for your business. For example, if you run a massage therapy business, you can set a duration of 1 hour for a Swedish massage, and then separately set a duration of 2 hours for a sports massage.
Real Business Example
Here’s how Wait Time (shown as “Availability”) and Duration appear to customers booking Greg Meyer’s One-Time Financial Planning Consultation service.
As you can see, the customer is provided with upfront information about Greg’s availability and the length of the consultation. The customer’s expectations are set and the business owner’s schedule is filled — it’s a win-win.
