These days we buy so much online that we forget what it's like to get good ol' fashioned advice and customer service at a brick and mortar store. My wife was in the market for a recreational bike. We started our search at a local Bay Area sporting goods chain. The two bike guys who helped us seemed certainly knowledgeable about bikes, but not to keen on actually helping us. And we didn't find anything in our budget. So one of the guys suggested we check out the selection at Walt's.

It was an entirely different experience at Walt's. Mark was very patient with my wife, me and our restless 7 year old in tow. My wife test rode multiple bikes and ended up deciding on a bike which she is now very happy with! We ended up spending a couple hundred dollars more than we had planned, but we were okay with that. We walked out feeling like we got great service and a quality bike that matched my wife's needs and preferences.

Even after the sale, Mark came out of the store to show me how to properly pop the front wheel off the bike. (As a man, I knew I could figure it out, but after struggling with it for 5 minutes, Valerie went back in the store to get him.) He would have spent more time with us had his colleague not remind him that there were other customers waiting in the store.

Overall, it was a great buying experience that makes us feel good about supporting a local shop.

Thanks for fixing my Xootr scooter guys!! Bought one of these things to get to work from the train and after a month some of the screws had vibrated loose and the thing needed a tune-up. Guess what South Bay!? no one fixes these things unless you head to the city...so I noticed that those places were bike stores, so I'm usually not very smart but I figured if a bike shop in San Francisco can fix a kick-scooter then one in Sunnyvale next to my office can probably do the same...ENTER WALTS CYCLE!! They did a great job while I waited, $10 and totally worth it. If you have a kick-scooter like a Xootr or a razor Lux5 or whatever and need a tune-up these guys can do it for you without you having to schlep to the city. I also learned about some great Italian restaurants while I waited so thanks for that guys!

... Once they heard it was my commute bike they said they'd try to get it to me sooner. I had to wait a bit because the mechanic was busy helping another customer, and the manager felt bad that I had to wait and offered to get the bike to me the next day! They totally did, and they did an awesome job on it. They also cleaned it! The guy also estimated what it would cost but it ended up being a bit less, which was nice. My bike isn't easy for me to work on if there's any issues that require taking the rear wheel off since I've got an internal hub on the rear wheel, so I was super happy to have them take care of dealing with getting the rear wheel off and on. They also will save anything they removed that they replaced if you want, which I thought was nice. Everyone seemed really knowledgeable, and the shop is a cute older style that feels very comfortable. I would definitely come here again!

Couldn't ask for a better neighborhood bike shop.

I've been bicycling casually for the past 6 years but I'll admit that I don't know a ton about repairs and maintenance other than the basics. Each time i've gone here looking for help the staff was incredibly patient, friendly, knowledgeable and took the time to explain things about the products I was interested and gave recommendations based on my needs. I've been to other bike shops where the staff made me feel inferior for not being as knowledgable as a bicycle mechanic - I really appreciate how friendly and lax the staff is at Walts.

The shop has a decent selection of bicycles and just about everything else you might need. I've purchased new wheels, mudguards, and pedals + shoes here and every time has been a pleasure.

Excellent service. I went in yesterday and tried to get some repairs done to an older bike - they actually told me I would be better off buying an inexpensive bike from target rather than paying them to fix it (the bike was in terrible condition). Impressed by their honesty, I returned the next day and bought a simple bike from them to use to get to work, with the first full tune up included in the purchase

Great friendly, knowledgable staff. They listened to what kind of riding I do, and came up with a perfect fit. I took my other bike in for service. They did an excellent job tuning/servicing it. They didn't try to sell me parts I didn't need like some other shops.
