Upbeat Music

Music school

Upbeat Music School is the largest music school in the Chinatown/South Loop area of Chicago offering private lessons on piano, guitar, bass, violin, voice, and drums in one location. We have the largest and most qualified teaching faculty in the Chinatown/South Loop area of Chicago, all with university training (more than half have master's degrees) and professional performance experience.

In addition to their teaching credentials, our teachers have warm personalities, are extremely friendly and dedicated to teaching you the style of music that you want to learn in your music lesson. Learning to play an instrument is fun, plus music education builds discipline, increases confidence and can even improve academic performance. Studies have shown that students who learn music perform better in school. In fact, the number one undergraduate degree accepted into medical schools is music. Read more

Upbeat Music located in the edge of Bridgeport and Armour Square neighborhood. They have amazing music teachers for piano, guitar and violin and I also believe voice and drums. My daughter was a student for for at least two and half years and we enjoyed our time with the school. The owner Scott is friendly guy and he very helpful with information and the recitals are very nice. Justin was our daughter's piano teacher and he is an outstanding piano teacher with so much skill and talent. I recommend this music school for anybody looking to put their kids into a music school.

Great, quality music education that's close for those in the South Loop, Bridgeport/Chinatown and Hyde Park areas (among others). The teachers are top notch and do a great job helping the kids not only learn to play an instrument but also appreciate and love it. It's nice that the students can put it all together with various concerts and contests that push them for excellence as well. Highly recommend this place!

The violin and piano teachers here challenge our kids to play to the best of their abilities. Yet, they motivate and instill a love of music to them. The various concerts, contests, and recitals held throughout the year provide an incentive to the kids to reach their goals.

I am a music teacher at an elementary school, and 8 of my students take violin/bass lessons through Upbeat. The teacher is amazing! She is very proficient in her instrument and explains concepts in an understandable way. The students look forward to their lessons every week. Their playing has improved immensely in just 2 months working with her. I would definitely recommend Upbeat Music!

“Our son has been taking private guitar and group rock band lessons at Upbeat Music for about 3 yrs. We have nothing but great things to say about our overall experience here. Sam Krahn is a phenomenal instructor, Scott and Pok really care about their students and families. They both go out of their way to find performance opportunities which will showcase their students talents and abilities. My husband and I have no musical background or knowledge its feels great to know that our son is gaining a musical education and passion/love for music thru UPBEAT MUSIC”.

“Upbeat Music is the best place for learning how to play most any percussion type instruments. I do not know of anywhere else in Chinatown that does this. Scott and Pok Ling are the owners. I have been going to them for many years. If you cannot make a lesson time, you can swap with others online. So, that makes it very flexible when there are last minutes events that comes up. They will work with you individually also if the swapping don’t work. Pok is the best. She is always upbeat(ha ha) You will love her”
