Snapper Voice Studios

Music Teacher

Juliana Snapper is an internationally recognized singer, director and voice scholar. In her teaching, she focuses on the mechanics of vocal technique as the most direct route to developing the full expressive potential of the individual voice. Many of her students have successful musical careers, and her studio includes several Emmy and Grammy award winners in its numbers.
Snapper's own career was propelled early on by a Grammy for her contribution to the Best Ensemble in Opera Recording, and by winning the Blanche Thebom/Metropolitan Opera award for Outstanding Young Singer of the Year in 1990. She currently holds degrees in vocal performance from the Oberlin Conservatory of Music, where she studied under Richard Miller, and an MA in critical musicology from the University of California, San Diego, where she continued on to complete a Ph.D dissertation on contemporary vocalism, supported in part by grants awarded by the UCSD Center for the Humanities and the American Association of University Women. She has also received generous funding from the Arts Council of Great Britain, the Durfee Foundation, the Knight Foundation, and the Robert Rauschenberg Foundation, among others, for the production of her original large-scale works. She is the best! I've known her most of her life, have seen her teach and attended many of her performances. She is not only a gifted teacher but also a remarkable performance artist.

Juliana is an incredible instructor. I am a teacher myself, and I am impressed with how supportive, encouraging, and engaging she is. I was nervous to begin vocal lessons, because I had no control of my voice and could barely recognize pitch in it, but she helped me become comfortable almost immediately and coached me to reach levels I never expected of myself. Even though I moved across country, I still book lessons with her over the internet. If you're considering taking vocal lessons, sign up with her. You'll wish you had done so sooner.

Juliana Snapper is an excellent teacher and coach! Since I started working with her a year ago my voice quality and vocal technique have improved dramatically. In a relatively short period of time she helped me develop the skills and the confidence to really get out there and sing.
During the last few months I have performed at the House of Blues, Java Joe's, Southpark Abbey, Grassroots Oasis, and I sing weekly on stage with Minor Suspension at Finest City Improv - all because of what I learned from Juliana. If you want to become a better singer, she can really help!

I wish I could give SVS more than 5 stars! Like the other reviewers, I've had absolutely the most amazing experience working with Juliana. ... . Juliana is positive, encouraging, and professional, and she constantly challenges me to reach beyond my own expectations. She is an exquisitely talented artist and instructor--I highly recommend her studio.
