Rainbow Daycare, INC. ("RDC") opened its doors for business on September 9, 1986. The first person with a vision and determination to fulfill her dream (to our benefit) was Dorothy Benjamin, a new mother with a need for childcare. In 1981, she was ahead of her time in developing the first on-site infant daycare facility for State workers in California (Capital Infant/Toddler Center). For five years, Ms. Benjamin with the help of Tess Albin-Smith and several other parents fought to keep our lease, which was on State property scheduled for other state uses. Our troubles finally gained attention in 1984 when the State of California established a childcare fund to help state employees start their own centers. The parents organized as a non-profit corporation and with Ms. Benjamin's assistance, we were able to stay together another two years until we moved to our current site.

We owe a debt of gratitude to Dorothy Benjamin and Tess Albin-Smith, the center's founding president, as well as to the tireless efforts and determination not only of our parents, but our State officials, legislators, volunteer crews, and staff.     Both my son and daughter have really enjoyed attending Rainbow. The staff is great and there is plenty of outdoor space to run around when the weather is nice.

    My almost 2 year old is been going here for about 1,5 years and I feel very comfortable leaving him in their capable hands. I can't believe I'm writing the first google review. Rainbow must be a well hidden secret. It is very popular for the 'green class' which is 6 weeks - 24 months, but Rainbow offers classes all the way up to pre-k with excellent and qualified teachers.

    Have been very pleased with Rainbow. We've had our little one here since she was 9 months and she's over 3 now. The staff are caring and the location is convenient.

    Staff are very professional, high caregiver to child ratios, well organized management. Awesome playground on the inside of the building protected from the street in an open air atrium. Excellent food program. Excellent transition program as the child moves from one age group class on up. They have a full day pre K program, much better than public school pre K program. It's also a nice well run COOP, so parents are move involved in their child's daycare. Our child is doing great there.
