Pride & Joy School

Day Care

At Pride & Joy School, we introduce English-speaking children to Spanish (and vice versa) and facilitate their acquisition of the language through two-way dual language instruction in small class settings. Our 1:6 ratio cap allows for increased interaction between children and teachers.

Through our program, we also teach the importance of community and nature. We encourage eco-consciousness and introduce the idea of self-sustainability by working together to reap the benefits of our large, raw space. We promote this lifestyle by incorporating organic gardening, observing chickens and their life cycles and other outdoor activities into our curriculum.

In addition to planting the seeds of a new language, our educators strive to instill within our young students a foundation of positive characteristics. These include manners, good listening skills, responsibility, organization, self-control, compassion, and respect. Our children are taught open-mindedness and to embrace diversity- something Austin is well-known for. Read more

Our 5 year old recently graduated from Pride and Joy, after being there since he was 3. We loved the school and have nothing but love for the wonderful, caring staff. We are so grateful our little guy got to spend the last 2 years there. Mayra and AJ are the best - truly caring, loving, thoughtful people. It was an great fit for our family - they nourished his soul and his body (amazing food!!! He really misses Ms. Lara's incredible lunches!). It was wonderful dropping him off every day at a place where we knew he was loved and appreciated. Thanks P&J! We miss you!!

We are so happy we found Pride & Joy. This little bilingual gem on the east side -- where Mayra & Ajay make everyone feel like family, and the caregivers are so calm, kind, and loving with our baby -- has been our girl's second home for three months. In that short time Vera helped her develop into a happy, curious, independent baby who often wants to stay and play when I come to pick her up. The playground, raised beds, chickens, and colorful houses brighten the central yard, and I often wish I could join the kids for their delicious looking, healthy lunches. If you're looking for a community, not just childcare, this is your spot.

Pride and Joy offers a loving environment, bilingual education and organic and eclectic meals. The teachers are so warm and they love our daughter well. The owners, Mayra and AJ, are always on site and are very involved with making sure the place is clean and safe.

I cannot say enough good things. We drive all the way across town to bring our daughter here, and it's worth every minute of I-35 traffic.

Our three-year-old and newborn attended Pride & Joy, and I recommend them to all of our friends looking for a happy, nurturing and affordable day care. I had to go back to work when my youngest was seven weeks old, and as hard as it was, I always felt reassured when leaving her in Valerie's care. I can't say enough good things, and I am so glad we found them! We still drive by and my oldest begs to go inside to visit everyone.
