Parent Infant Center

Day Care

For over three decades, the Parent-Infant Center has provided high quality child care to the families who live and work in the diverse neighborhoods of West Philadelphia.

We believe building a strong community of families and staff encourages the healthy development of children. We work closely with families by exchanging information, sharing decision-making, and by providing mutual support for parenting. PIC’s uniquely participatory approach to learning includes involving families in many phases of center life — from participating in the classroom to serving on the Board of Directors. Read more

My daughter was in the infant classroom for 18 months (Jan 10-Aug 11). We left only because we moved out of the area. I have sent children to 4 other daycare programs (one in Philly, 2 in Maryland and 1 in California) and while this review is a little out of date it does benefit from comparison to other centers.

... The interaction gave me confidence that any problems that arose would be addressed appropriately and effectively, which is the key to maintaining a high quality childcare.

Finally, most importantly, the classroom felt wonderful and the kids had a great time.

This review is for the playgroups they offer on Mondays and Fridays.

Last year when it got cold, we were itching for a place to send our Au Pair with our daughter so that she can interact with other kids. ... If you are up for helping, which is a super easy gig, you show up at 9am and help set up. Breaking down is even easier and typically happens while you would be there anyway. In exchange, they don't ask you to pay for that visit and give you three more free visits. Not too shabby.

The crew is very nice and this is a great option for kids to interact without footing the bill for full blown daycare.

    A local institution.

P.I.C. has conscientiously built up the quality of the service it provides families in the area, encouraging the development of professional child care staff and offering a working model to many other child care providers.

Parent participation in the workings of the program is considered essential, which won't fit with the expectations of those who would just drop their kids off in the morning and pick them up at the end of the day. For those who are comfortable with this 'cooperative' approach, it helps the children absorb the lessons of work-play-learning integrity.
