Our experience ranges from leading extended expeditions to South America, 8000-meter peaks, Europe, Alaska, and Antarctica. Our programs are small, often customized, and led by AMGA certified Rock, Alpine and Ski guides. We have no ambition to be the largest guide service, but we intend to remain one of the best.
We have been in continuous operation since 1994 and have also worked for many of the most successful US-based and international mountain guide services in the world. I reached out to NWMS this spring about doing an alpine climb this summer. Within the hour, John called me and we spent nearly 45 minutes discussing my goals, expectations, and options. I immediately got the feeling that this was the right guide service for me. My intuition was right. Adam from NWMS was great. Safety was always the top priority but it was clear he wanted to get my brother and I to the summit of Mount Baker. We made it and it was great. In summary, NWMS is flexible in their custom climbs, fees are responsible, and safety was #1. I would climb with NWMS and Adam again. We will be inquiring about a Rainer climb for next summer!

John and Olivia run the best, small guide company around. They are extremely safe, personable, and run excellent small group trips. They are both IFMGA certified and have experience skiing and climbing in all of the great ranges around the world.

Northwest Mountain School in Leavenworth does a magnificent job with everything from guiding international climbs to instruction in self rescue. They only hire excellent guides and instructors. The whole organization is an asset to our local and regional climbing community.

NMS is great! I chose NMS after reading reviews and because I wanted the more personal attention that you just may not get with a larger guide company. The communication and friendliness from all of the staff was great; Lyndsay and Olivia were great at communicating all of the information that we needed for our trip. As beginners, we were treated great and had a great experience. Three friends and I climbed Mt. Baker with Adam as our guide. Adam was awesome. He was very knowledgeable and helped us feel safe and confident on our climb. ...

I have been out twice now with NMS and both experiences were exactly what I was looking for. The first time was a refresher course in basic rock climbing skills after a long layoff. The most recent was a custom day-long program covering anchors, gear placement, trad leading, and crack climbing technique. My guide had incredible amounts of experience but treated me like I knew what I was doing. The office responded promptly and was easy to deal with. I wouldn't hesitate to hire NMS in the future...and probably will do so.
