My Yoga Room

Yoga Instructor

Hello! My name is Katherine and I am the owner of My Yoga Room. We are a small studio in SE Portland that just opened in April 2017. I teach most of the classes right now, but we have a group of amazing teachers who will soon be taking over more classes. Our core values at My Yoga Room are community, mindfulness, and transformation. Our teachers will guide you through each class, but YOU are the boss! Listen to your body, and give it what it needs. This takes practice, but we will help you learn.

We are goal oriented. Every class follows the same structure, and each day of the week we emphasize a different component. (check our social media to see what we are working on each day!) Every day we work on breathing, mindfullness, core strength, balance, flexibility, arm balances, and inversions. We mix the specifics up every 3 months to give you enough time to build confidence and ease in the postures. Right now we are working on crow & side crow, forearm stand, and wheel pose. We make these postures accessible for everyone, and they are just a goal to work towards, never an expectation. We offer props and modifications so you can find the expression of each pose that works best for your body. Every practice in our studio is made safely and carefully with intention and integrity. It's been a while since I've practiced yoga and decided to give My Yoga Room a try. I've only been there a couple of times but I gotta say, it is the perfect place for me right now. Katherine is so nice and kind. Class sizes are small and the atmosphere is perfect. They also provide a variety of classes and programs which makes me look forward to trying more and more different things.

Although I had looked at pictures online prior to attending class, my expectations were far from the reality. The studio is tiny, but elegant and equipped. Katherine has set up the space to be free of distractions, clutter, or any sense of 'business,' for that matter, and instead has created a true haven for yogis to escape the hustle of the city. ...

I have done a few yoga classes online and thought that those would be enough to further my practice. Out of curiosity, I decided to try a free week of yoga at My Yoga Room PDX. While I haven't completed the full first week yet, I had to give an early review on Yelp. Just within these first few days, I have to say that online classes cannot compare to the these classes with Katherine. She is able to give advice, careful attention and encouragement. I already feel like I'm on the right path to becoming a balanced and practiced yogi. ...
