Jeannette Neill Dance Studio

Dance Teacher

In 1979, Jeannette Neill, a young and naive dancer, teacher and single mother, borrowed $50 from each of ten friends, and talked her way into a Back Bay lease. Buying some mirrors and a record player, she converted a former street-level post office on Belvidere Street into The Jeannette Neill Dance Studio. While her two small children played in a corner of the studio, Jeannette taught five classes a day, a total of seventeen classes a week! (Classes cost $4.50.) As she added to her faculty, she built the first and only studio in the area dedicated to jazz dance, and in its lifetime, the studio has benefitted from a faculty of well over a hundred of the best dance educators in New England. Jeanette is the absolute best! I've been dropping in on her classes for 20 years. I'm beyond heartbroken that the studio is closing, there will be a huge hole in the dance scene in Boston for sure.

I am actually starting to dance jazz thanks to Jeannette. She is a terrific teacher who is incredibly inspiring! I am moved by the music and motivated to keep at it each week. I am NOT young yet I can .... try it!

Since 1979 the Jeannette Neill Dance Studio has earned a reputation in the Boston and New England dance community as a center of excellence in dance education. Whether you’re an adult beginner wanting to take a drop in class, a young person wanting a serious, pre-professional dance program or an established professional, the excellent faculty and state-of-the-art studios are sure to have the classes you seek.

I would come more consistently but getting into Boston can be a pain when there is something at the Garden especially. However, if there is not anything at the Garden and thus a quiet night in this area of Boston...check out the awesome classes offered at JN Dance. They have everything from Musical theatre dance (my personal fav), to contemporary, to Jazz and Hip Hop...just to name a few. $17 walk in rate.
