I've never experienced a more welcoming yoga community than I have at the House of Jai. The instructors take effort to know your name and your body - and give amazing alignment cues and hands on adjustments. I'm actually secretly not wanting to post this in fear that word will get out :) but honestly, they know what they're doing.
Very friendly, welcoming and great classes. They have a wide variety of classes. The space is well designed, not too big and not too small with a very convenient location. All the teachers I tried were great. I found a yoga studio I really wanted to go back to.
Great Prenatal Yoga!Original recommendation
I went to House of Jai regularly (2 to 4 times per week) throughout my pregnancy. Love this place! Their prenatal yoga classes kept me fit, healthy and happy throughout my pregnancy. Moreover, the primary prenatal instructor, Cait, is great at building a sense of community within the class, so you get to meet lots of other mommas/momma-to-bes. The vibe of the studio is super friendly and low-key. I tell all my momma-to-be friends to go to HOJ!
I'm not a frequent yoga goer. I just moved to the UES from the east village. From the few places I've went to I highly recommend this studio. Friendly staff. Great environment. Enjoy!Original recommendation
How can I describe what I've experienced at House of Jai since I walked through their doors at the beginning of January??? Let's say this...I've enjoyed other studios and I have shared my praise. BUT...House of Jai is my special unicorn. I can't compare them to other studios because they are in a (yoga)class by themselves.Original recommendation
Everyone there makes you feel like you can accomplish ANYTHING.
Here are some of my observations:
EVERY instructor is top notch.
They ensure your experience is uplifting and, most importantly, safe. They provide hands on guidance so you are comfortable in your poses. The instructors are very knowledgeable about how the body's joints and muscles move during the practice. They are all like spiritual anatomy and physiology teachers.
They remember your name. And if they forget, they ask.
They remember if you have an injury. Or they will ask you if you have one before class starts.
Classes are intimate. If a class seems crowded, it never ever feels crowded. EVER. Classmates always make space for you. And the instructors make it around the room. You are never forgotten
Each instructor has exceptional taste in music. I know this is subjective..but really..they all do.
I've noticed that each instructor changes up their routines. It's almost like HOJ has double the amount of classes because the instructors all mix things up.
Instructors are often students in one another's classes...this includes the owners as well. To me this is the make of a great studio. The student-teacher and teacher/student vibe is at the core of HOJ.
See? Amazing right?
Aside from their amenities (towels, free Manduka mat rental),they offer things that I never expected like community. My fellow yoga mates are wonderful just as wonderful as my instructors. I can feel this and see this each time I'm there.
I strongly encouraged trying the 10 day trial. They have a variety of classes at a variety of times. Even if you do not go every day during the trial, you will get a nice variety of what HOJ is about and what they have to offer. After my 10 day trial, I kept going. And I keep on going.
HOJ make you feel like you're at home. And you will leave with more namaste than you ever bargained for.
