Things seemed to somehow work-out, though, in April of 1977 the shop was moved to a larger building on Miller Valley Road. A name change for the business was also necessary, so Back Street Bikes became High Gear Bike Shop. Doug later moved on and left Steve as the sole proprietor. In 1989 the business was again moved to Iron Springs Road - better building, more visibility and good parking, but the business soon outgrew this facility and in 1993 a second store, High Gear East, was opened in Frontier Village. The folks at High Gear were super kind and helpful yesterday when my Dad and two of my sons went in. They let me elder son watch/help with his bike tires, and were kind to my younger son who was touching everything. They even gave the boys water bottles which they are now treasuring. Thank you so much- we will be back whenever we need bike help or new bikes!

We experienced exemplary service from the moment we entered until we loaded the bike into the car. Mogens is a lifelong road biker who decided to take up mountain biking now that we’re living in AZ. ...

I appreciated how welcome they made me feel. Am new to town and Chris was very generous with his time pointing out good routes for road and gravel riding. They did a tune-up on my low-end Trek hybrid and I never felt like a low-end customer. Chris kept working on my drive train and testing my bike up and down the alley until he finally coaxed the below-Claris-level Shimano group to find the small chainring. Kind of gave him a sow's ear and he made a silk purse out of it!
