East Side Yoga

Yoga Instructor

Alia, our owner/founder, is a recovering attorney turned entrepreneur who has always used her yoga practice to balance out the stress of her professional (and personal!) life. As a teacher, she has developed a style of yoga that particularly appeals to the stressed-out Washingtonian she herself used to be. With fun playlists and down-to-earth language, she makes yoga approachable and enjoyable for everyone.

She's also a Yoga-Alliance 200-hour certified vinyasa instructor who has been practicing yoga since 2008 and teaching since 2012. She has a business degree from UT Austin, a law degree from UPenn, and nearly five years of experience as a corporate attorney under her belt. Read more

I joined this studio because I love outside yoga. I wish they had more rooftop classes. Even when advertised and the weather is perfect the teacher may randomly decide to move the class indoors. That's disappointing. Otherwise, beautiful studio. Excellent staff and lots of classes; weekend expeditions and rooftop happy hours!

Great studio! Let's be honest, yoga can be an intimidating environment for newbies. There are all sort of stereotypes for the "who" of yogis. I don't wear lululemon; I love cheeseburgers; and I have zero core muscles! With that said, I enjoy yoga and wanted a comfortable studio. Found it in ESY! A wonderful studio to clear your mind and heal.

After just one week of attending classes at ESY, I've already fallen in love with it. Alia has done an amazing job creating a relaxed, welcoming, and communal atmosphere. I felt immediately at home! I have a history of lower back pain/tightness, and after a week of the mild relaxed flow classes I have noticed a considerable difference. I'm definitely hooked!

Beautiful atmosphere, fantastic teachers! I was really impressed after my first visit and I can't wait to go back. I too would love more early morning class options - I would come every morning if I could!

I love everything about ESY (except I wish they had more morning offerings)! The owner, Alia, is simply awesome - welcoming, calming, encouraging, and just a lovely person. That is also reflected in the staff, who all make you feel like you have come to the exact right place to get a great workout and a centered mind. ESY is an oasis in the city, with a gorgeous rooftop where classes are held in the warmer weather, and the coziest indoor yoga studio I've ever practiced in. The resident massage therapist is also superb. I am so glad they are in my neighborhood!
