It was during this time of economic growth that W.C. Childs hitched his team of horses to the wagon and founded what would become one of the longest standing family run businesses in Maryland.
What started as a general hauling and cargo trunk transportation business in the 1890’s has grown into a full service household goods moving and furniture delivery service. The above photo shows the first non-horse driven vehicle used by Childs Express with Mr. Childs, and his son, the second and third generations of Childs Express.
We attribute our longevity to God’s grace and our core family values of integrity and hard work. Today, if you call Childs Express, Inc. you will still speak to and deal with someone from the Childs family. Great service. My sofa arrived at Childs earlier than had been promised by Sofas, Etc. Childs was very easy to work with on setting up delivery time. The truck arrived within the expected window. The men were very friendly and did a great job taking care to avoid damages to the new sofa and our home (e.g. noticed a decorative item on our wall would be in danger of being knocked and asked me to remove it before the brought the sofa in). 100% positive experience.

What a great outfit! From a spot on estimate to an unexpected follow up, Childs Express was excellent. Scheduling "moving day" was easy. They were there when expected with the right equipment. The crew was efficient, careful, helpful, and most of all friendly, humorous and forever willing to move an item from one room to another until we found the right spot for it. Moving day is never pleasant but this crew made it almost fun. A few days after our move, we discovered one glass lampshade missing. One of the crew had found it in the truck and put it in his own car for safekeeping before the truck left for North Carolina. Then it was even delivered to us. Now that's service! Childs gets a total thumbs up from me.

I recently hired Child's to move my family into our new home. They made an otherwise stressful situation, pleasant. They arrived on time, were polite, careful, and efficient. They packed up our 5 br home in just over 4 hours and unpacked into our new home in 3 hours. All of our belongings arrive safety and both homes were free of any scuffing and scraping. I would recommend these folks to my friends and family without hesitation.
