Caroline Kerhervé

Doula

Originally from a small town, just north of Paris, I completed my Master’s Degree in Psychology (Paris V University - 2002) and was a practicing clinical psychologist before I met, married, and moved with my husband to San Francisco in 2006.

I became interested in doula services after having my daughter in 2008 and I realized the ways in which I needed help as a new mom and was then able to help my friends with their new babies around the same time. I became a Certified Lactation Educator and Counselor in 2009 (University of California San Diego) and then was trained and certified as a Postpartum Doula through the American Association of Doulas in 2010 (Dona International).

I decided to increase my knowledge and experience in breastfeeding by entering the Lactation Consultant training program with UCSD and became an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC - 2013) I observed and interacted with over 200 breastfeeding dyads (mom-baby couples) during my training at Kaiser Hospital San Francisco and Day One Support Center San Francisco. My training also gave me the opportunity to observe a wide range of breastfeeding situations and to be trained for response by several very experienced IBCLCs.

I am continuously in awe of the mothers, babies, and families I work with and I am devoted to offering emotional support and practical information to each of them. Read more

Caroline has been extremely helpful to me and my family throughout the first 4 months of my little one. ... She has been very supportive to all of our needs, teaching us all the basics and not so basics of breastfeeding (positions, pumping, going back to work plan, etc.), and being flexible about meeting in person, at a consult or at home, and emailing whenever necessary.

... Her Circle of Moms sessions are amazing and even if you have help and answer to all of your questions, I truly recommend attending these for emotional support.

Caroline was a life saver when we had our twins. She helped us prepare before they arrived and once they did, she was incredibly helpful. There isn't enough space here to list all the ways that she provided both myself and my husband with support, guidance, and encouragement. And as much-needed extra pair of hands, Caroline skillfully jumped in to help with whatever needed to get done.

Even though breast feeding was going pretty well in the beginning, Caroline had so many helpful tips and made breast feeding so much better. She also brings a scale so that you can avoid lots of trips to the pediatrician in the beginning when they are gaining weight back. A great resource to have and she is covered under some insurance plans!!!! I am so happy that we found Caroline.

We are such big Caroline. ...

After our sessions were finished, I joined one of Caroline’s moms’ groups and I loved that as well. ...

Even now that our baby is 5 months old, we are still reaping the benefits of working with Caroline. ... She’s stayed in touch with us and is coming to our moms’ group reunion party this weekend. Of all the money we spent prepping for our baby, hiring Caroline was easily the smartest investment we made. My advice: don’t bother having a baby in San Francisco without Caroline!
