Craig Gildner and The Blue Sky 5 were formed in 1999 by original members Craig Gildner and Tommy Greco during the high point of the swing dance resurgence. While other bands were donning outrageous zoot suits and playing jump blues, Craig was delving into the true classic repertoire of the swing era small bands from Basie, Ellington, Goodman and Shaw.
A unique feature of this band is that there are original songs and arrangements that stay true to the swing lexicon: you’d hardly know if it was written in 1944 or 2014. Vintage instruments and attire complete the effect. As testament to the band’s authenticity, it has appeared at premiere dance events such as DCLX, CincyLX, Jammin’ on the James, and Midsummer Night Swing.

Craig was attentive and professional, and worked with us to make sure our wedding was exactly how we envisioned. Everyone was impressed with their performance, and the dancing continued for the entire event!

Our wedding reception was pretty straightforward -- no special dances, no fancy requests -- just a couple hours of music we could dance to at the end of the night. The Blue Crescent Syncopaters (a hot jazz quintet that overlaps with Blue Sky 5) did not disappoint in any respect. ... During their breaks, we got to know the band members a little bit over a tart and some wine. Overall, very pleased with their performance, and would certainly recommend them to anyone who likes this old-style music!

They were INCREDIBLE and the guests LOVED them! Thank you so much for entertaining everyone for our wedding at Ski Liberty. The dance lessons made the reception so much fun and interactive for the guests. Everyone commented to me how much they enjoyed the band and how different it was compared to most weddings they attend. Again, thank you!!!
