Barbara Timson

Doula

Established in 2003. As a certified midwife from Switzerland, Barbara transitioned to working as a labor doula in 2003.I grew up in Switzerland where I finished high school and went on to study midwifery in St.Gallen. After graduating in 1984, I spent 2 years working as a young midwife at a hospital in Switzerland, delivering babies and learning about birth in all variations. In 1986, I took a leave of absence to study English in San Francisco and to spend some time rock climbing in Yosemite Natl. Park. During that time I met my husband and after getting married 2 years later decided to make Seattle my home. Although I moved away, I was lucky to receive annual invitations from different hospitals in Switzerland who asked me to help out for 2-3months at a time. These visits were extremely helpful to stay connected with my work as a midwife. During the rest of the time, I either guided mountaineering trips for local guide services or just went traveling and climbing with my husband. Read more

I honestly don't know what I would have done without Barbara's help with the delivery of our daughter. She was so attentive, supportive, knowledgable and amazing bedside manner. I was aiming for a natural birth center birth but ended up in the hospital with an epidural. Throughout the changes in our pregnancy, she was there to support and offer guidance. ...

Barbara is wonderful, lovely, amazing, and quite simply the best!

If you're at all like we were, then you're not sure what the role of a doula is, how they can be helpful, and how to make the most of your birth experience. Or maybe you are certain that you want to work with a doula and you want to find the best person out there. ...

If I could give Barbara a million stars I would! My ob had highly recommended Barbara as a doula. Our initial meeting went over my birth plan of having an unmedicated birth with no interventions unless medically necessary. Barbara suggested listening to hypnosis for birth CD's which ended up playing a major role in getting through my last trimester and guided me through most of my labor. Laboring is as much physical as it is mental. ...

Barbara is phenomenal. She has been a vital part of labor and delivery for both of my children. Barbara takes the time to discuss your expectations and fears about the birth process and really learns your perspective, so she can be your advocate. She brings the human element back into the somewhat sterile medical field. ...
