At Home Animal Hospice

Veterinarian

At Home Animal Hospice was started after Dr. Flinn had to say goodbye to her own once-in-a-lifetime dog, Kimi. The loss was difficult, but she felt grateful that the process was smooth and pain-free. Wishing that other owners had access to a quiet and controlled in-home pet euthanasia, she realized that there was a need for caring pet euthanasia service in and around Sacramento. She knows firsthand how hard it is to say goodbye to a special pet and she wants to make the process easier and more peaceful for her clients and their pets. This was a natural fit after years of volunteering for the UC Davis Pet Loss support hotline as a veterinary student. As an intern in Chicago, she was awarded the "Most Compassionate Vet" award out of a group of ten interns. She is known for her calm and compassionate bedside manner.

Dr. Karina Flinn is a 2003 graduate of UC Davis veterinary school. She spent her first year as a vet doing a medical and surgical internship at a large Chicago-area veterinary hospital. After five years of working graveyard shifts in a busy Chicago ER, it was time to come home to California and settle down. She now works as a spay and neuter surgeon for a Sacramento animal shelter and operates At Home Animal Hospice. In addition to a rewarding career, she spends her time chasing around two preschoolers. Making the decision to let me baby Jenny go 3 months ago was one of the hardest decisions of my life. She was my bestie for 14 years. Dr. Flinn is a truly amazing doctor. So empathetic and so comforting. Wodks cannot express how thankful I am to have found Dr. Flinn to help me during my heartbreak. She was very calm and gentle. Jenny's passing was a beautiful experience and I can't recommend Dr. Flinn enough. I believe the price to have her come to the house, take Jenny to be cremated and return her remains in a beautiful carved box was $540. Well worth it.

Dr. Flinn was our support angel with sending our beloved Sunny to the Rainbow Bridge. Her compassion, and follow up concern, helped us cope. Thank you Dr. for being with us during such a sad time. You are very special.

At home euthanasia is the best way for both pets and owners to say goodbye. The doctor was easy to communicate with and upfront about pricing and procedures.

She arrived on time, took credit cards and explained everything in detail before the process started. She brought a nice, soft blanket for him to lay on. FYI, If you have a bigger dog, you will likely need to assist in getting the deceased pet to the vehicle. This was not an issue and was discussed during the appointment process. Again, no details were left out which was appreciated.

After he was gone she offered to wait outside so we could let the other dog and cats in to see he was gone; really appreciated not having ask at the time :)

One suggestion could be to encourage clients to fill out the consent form (not sure what to call it) online and perhaps even pay directly through the site.

Losing a pet is a horrible experience but Karina made it just a bit easier which is really saying a lot.

I'm not looking forward to calling again but at least I know who to call when it's time.

Thank you so much for your warmth and kindness.

This was the hardest decision I've ever had to make. My Best Friend and Therapy Dog of over 16 years was suffering symptoms of very old age. We had been together throughout 20 of my surgeries and he helped me deal with my ptsd. On Saturday Dec 10th I was able to Return all his love in a most unselfish act to spare him suffering and allow him a dignified death as he had lived his life. It was so hard to make this decision and tears are falling still, but my last memory of him was peaceful. His head on my lap I told him how much I loved him and thanked him for bringing so much friendship and happiness to my life. I kissed him goodbye and held him for a little bit, hugging him close one last time. This was the Right Choice for him not me. It hurts to do what is right but he is in no more pain and I hope to someday be reunited with him on the other side. If you are thinking about this service than you most likely know it is what is right. It was as peaceful as one could ever hope to go. At home animal hospice is the right choice if you love your family member as much as I did. Thank you for helping me through this tough time and may God Bless you, ...
