Astayoga

Yoga Instructor

AstaYoga opened in 2009 as a studio uniquely dedicated to individuals who wish to develop and maintain a rigorous, committed and enjoyable practice in a friendly community setting. Unlike other studios with hyped up teachers and watered down classes, at AstaYoga we believe that advanced practice is not about what you can do but who you can become and how much better you can feel with dedication to your practice. This is a super cheesy way to put it, but Astayoga changed my life. I found it when I was at a point where I wanted to take my yoga practice beyond just the beginner level. It was a little daunting at first, because there are some very talented and dedicated people practicing there who are more "advanced" so to say, but I'm so glad I stuck with it. I've been going regularly for a few years now and it's almost become an addiction. ...

Love this studio. For me, it's a continuation of It's Yoga, which was founded by Larry Schultz who created the Rocket series- what they teach at Asta. If you want to get in shape and have an authentic yoga experience, go to Asta. All of their teachers are great!

While Asta Yoga is also a lovely space in the heart of The Mission district, with a slight industrial vibe and a back patio surrounded by bamboo, a dedicated group of practitioners who become recognizable after just a few visits, the focus is on the yoga asana and breath practice. If there is music playing in class, it is super minimal. Finally getting around to writing this review. I've been coming here for well over a year now and have had nothing but great experiences. Having taken classes with Steve, Rene, Kristina and Kerrigan. You can't really go wrong with any instructor. My personal favorite classes are the 12p and 4:30p

I find the classes challenging in the best ways. It took me quite a while to find a studio that I like and have stuck with for this much time.
