American Dance Institute

Dance School

ADI opened in 1989, primarily as a ballet school. We have evolved over the last 30 years and now offer a full line up of Ballet, Jazz, Tap, Modern, Creative Dance, Hip-Hop, Flamenco, Irish and Musical Theatre. Classes for toddlers through adults. Beginner through advanced.

ADI dance instruction includes strength training, cardio, core & flexibility. Arms, legs, backs, abs, neck, toes all get a workout. Students also develop grace, poise, confidence and a feeling that as an artist their soul is being fed. If fitness & artistic expression are your goals, then you will feel right at home at ADI. My daughter has been dancing/leaning ballet at this studio for 8 years now. We love it. It is local, embraces the local nature of Greenwood and is just a fantastic place. The teachers are wonderful, the studio is welcoming and just perfect for us. The owner, Elizabeth is available to chat with about any concerns and has been very accommodating to our schedule over the years. My daughter is always ready to go 30 minutes before class and never wants to miss a class, over 8 years this speaks volumes. I enjoy the Early Bird discount given by paying earlier than the deadline, nice perk.

If your child or teen is interested in dance/movement- this is the place. It has enough professional level elements (the teachers, the dress code, the performances) for it to feel "real" but none of the exclusivity of dance classes where expressing oneself is discouraged. Just the right mix of dance, exploring and fun. My teen daughter has taken tons of classes since she was 5- ballet, jazz. hip hop- as she changes interests frequently- which is a good thing!!

The teachers are REALLY good dancers in their own right!

My previous ballet experience was in Austin, TX. I moved to Seattle and couldn't find adult class that worked with my work schedule and the horrible Seattle traffic. I randomly found ADI and saw that the classes were late enough to attend, so I tried them out. It was great. The teachers have been really upbeat and positive so far, and the classes have been challenging yet fun. I definitely don't think I'll be going anywhere else.

My children (a son and daughter) have taken classes and camps at ADI for the last several years. They have both really enjoyed their teachers and the class structure. My daughter has tried Irish, tap, ballet, creative dance and hip hop. She has loved all of her teachers and classes so far. What we've most appreciated about ADI is how the focus is not on the final performance, but on the learning during classes. Each final performance is low pressure and in the classroom. There's also no pressure to purchase special dance outfits for the performance and the swap boxes often have free shoes for the littlest dancers.

We just finished our parent and toddler class with Miss Alyssa. As a former early educator with a little one who is on the tender/sensitive side, I believe we couldn't have had a better experience and teacher. It was a creative, casual environment where our daughter could watch the other children and adults until she was comfortable participating. Additionally, our daughter went from observing most of the time to doing all the movements and songs at home and participating in the entire class. As parents, it was truly rewarding watching our daughter gain confidence and enthusiasm in expressing herself through dance in front of others.

Miss Alyssa is warm, personable, and knows how to involve and engage the toddlers with their different personalities. She keeps things moving along, with enough predictability for the toddlers to anticipate the next part of the class. I had other friends do the parent and toddler class, and when they hear about our class experience, they say they wish they had Miss Alyssa too! I can't say enough positive things about her, especially if you have a slow-to-warm little one as we do.

This was a wonderful experience for our whole family. Our daughter gained so much confidence and excitement for creative movement through this experience. Thanks, ADI and Miss Alyssa! We hope to be back.
