Affordabike

Bike Shop

Affordabike was founded in 2009 under the premise that bikes are too expensive and people at bicycle shops are generally not very nice. We envisioned a different experience where the prices were lower and customers were treated better. If we could provide this experience we felt like customers would be more encouraged to get out there and ride! And thus, Affordabike was born!

Originally we only carried our in-house brand of custom bikes called Bilda Bikes. We design the Bilda Bike frames and choose all the parts that can go on them. Customers then pick out all the parts and the colors and we build the bikes accordingly. As of 2016, we offer 5 different models including a single speed road bike with hand brakes. All our custom bikes are now available with 3 speed Shimano Nexus.

Over the years, we became more interested in all different types of cycling ranging from mountain to road to cyclocross and even triathlon. We experienced all the different niches of cycling in Charleston and that allowed us to meet and connect with a wide customer base. As our store grew, so did our offerings. We eventually came to carry Cannondale, Norco, Felt, BMC, Kona, Niner, Linus, Biria, Retrospect, and Dahon bikes to keep up with varying customer demands. While some bicycle shops decided to focus on the road or commuting, we took a more broad approach which stemmed from a love of all-things-cycling. Read more

Very friendly shop that supports the community with group rides, helping beginners, and putting on races.

They do so much for the cycling community here in Charleston. Build trails, host events, fundraisers, etc. I just competed in my first MTB race last weekend. They are hosting a series of 4 races this fall and the winner get gift cards to the shop!

All the mechanics at this place are awesome. Even when I bring in a beater mountain bike, they treat me like a pro. Unlike nearly every bike shop ever, these guys don't talk down to you, don't overcharge, and usually can fix you up while you wait. Today they even set me up with a simple fix for free. Consider me a customer for life.

I've visited Charleston a few times and highly recommend renting a bike to get around and see the city. The Arthur Revnel bridge is amazing to ride! Plus the sites, eating and shopping by bike is just a whole other experience. These guys are local, conveniently located and reasonably priced--also very friendly and accommodating! I highly recommend afford a bike! Ill definitely use them again and again!
