I am so, so glad I found Abingdon.

My dog sees Dr. Seaward who is very friendly, knowledgeable, and communicative as she does her exams. The philosophy at Abingdon is practical care. They are completely welcoming of conversations with you about what care is necessary and what is nice to have. They don't make you feel awkward for asking. As a freelance writer, I want to do right by my dog but I also am sensitive to walking out of the office with a $400 bill for a routine visit for tests and vaccinations. At Abingdon, they will give you their recommendation but also will educate you on a range of options.

This was a breath of fresh air compared to past clinics which basically presented a treatment plan as if it were the only option, and it felt embarrassing to ask them to explain whether there were other options, like I were committing some grave social offense. At the clinic I'd used in the neighborhood previous to Abingdon, I'd walk out with a $400 bill for routine care (exams, tests, etc.) and not really know what hit me. I knew I was getting good care, but there were several instances that made me question whether things were being ordered or asked for because they really were the best for my dog, or whether it was partly that and partly about making money. Here, I actually feel like they are talking to me and letting me make decisions vs talking down to me. It really does feel like they're all about what's best for the pet.

There isn't a better vet clinic in the area.

This morning we stumbled upon a wounded baby pigeon on the street in the rain. We took it to the clinic and were welcomed by a sweet assistant and a lovely vet. They immediately took the bird, they were super nice and caring, we knew right away the bird was in good hands! On top of everything it was free of charge (we're tourists) which was so touching and appreciated by us. Thank you so much for the happy ending!!!

Dr Diane Delorenzo and her associates, Dr. Seaward and Dr. Goldberg are all amazing--you really can't go wrong at this practice. I found them over twelve years ago, when I was going to a larger practice with my poodle, who kept having bouts of serious gastro problems. The practice I had been going to for a year had no follow through, and every time I went I saw a different doctor. When, in desperation I brought my sick little Stella to Abingdon Sq. Diane Delorenzo diagnosed her with a completely non-functioning gastro-intestinal tract, a non-working gall bladder and severe allergies. She put Stella on medication that helped her live to eleven in good spirits and without health problems. It was like a miracle! I've been with Abingdon Square for twelve years now and see them with my Siberian cat, and I'll be bringing my new puppy to them, this week!
They always follow up with a phone call and really care. Not only extremely good doctors, but they really love animals and take care of their "patients" in all ways--which matters!! They are kind and loving doctors all!

I am so glad we found Abington Square.

Prices are comparable to other vets in the area, but service is exponentially better.

Dr. Rose Burdon spent about an hour getting to know us and our pup and going over the basics of caring for a new puppy. Dr. Burdon was extremely informative and genuinely caring and kind. I appreciated her willingness to provide care and recommendations based on our lifestyle and preferences (e.g. avoiding over-vaccination). We left with a goody bag of pamphlets and helpful information.

    Perks:
Free puppy socialization classes are held every other Friday.
The office is very neat and clean.
The staff is fantastic (on the phone, over email, and in person).
If you use pet insurance, they will file for reimbursement from your insurance company for you. No need to deal with the paperwork yourself.

I've been bringing my dogs to Dr. DiLorenzo for more than 20 years--even after leaving nyc and moving across the river to Hoboken. Dianne is smart and compassionate, a great diagnostician and a strong advocate for her patients--even when it's hard for her human clients to hear. Although I prefer to see Dianne, I've been just as pleased with her associates, and the support staff are terrific--patient and good-natured and devoted to their work. A fantastic veterinary clinic.
